Culinary holidays in Sicily – cooking under Mount Etna!
Sicily is a region with an incredibly rich and fascinating local cuisine.
Enjoy Sicily’s culinary delights with Nicoletta and stay under the impressive Etna volcano (we’re far enough, don’t worry! :D) in a beautiful 4-stars hotel in Giarre.
We are taking you to this beautiful destination where you will not only enjoy the culinary richness this island has to offer but where you will also get acquainted with this region’s unique multi-cultural heritage.
We visit Modica, Italy’s chocolate capital where this great product is still made with an ancient Aztec recipe. We also go to the charming towns of Siracusa and Noto, have a drink on the beautiful piazza in Taormina and walk along the boulevard in cozy Giardini Naxos. This wonderful 8-days culinary holiday includes three Sicilian cooking workshops led by Nicoletta Tavella. Add this to the abundant consumption of Sicilian brioches with gelato, granitas and cannoli in the local pastry shop and of marvellous Sicilian wines and you’ll have the perfect foodie-proof holiday.
We offer this culinary trip without flights so that you can come and go as you prefer and even book an extension. If you wish, Style in Travel can also book all the flights for you and take care of extra hotel stays, car rental and more. Please let us know if you’d like some information on flights and prices from and to your own location.
Arrival in Catania and transfer to our hotel in Giarre.
Arrival, you can arrange your transfer or ask us to arrange it for you (please mention this in the booking form).
After a delicious breakfast in the garden and a relaxed morning in your hotel you start your lunch cooking workshop with original Sicilian dishes led by Nicoletta Tavella of La Cucina del Sole.
Today we visit Siracusa with our local guide. This beautiful city situated on the Ionian Sea has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2005 because of its large number of ancient remains. The oldest part of town is on the island of Ortigia, which is connected to the mainland by three bridges. Ortigia has a compact medieval center with narrow streets full of Baroque monuments and the beautiful Piazza Duomo. On the mainland you will find many charming points of interest including the Teatro Greco (ancient Greek theater), one of the largest and best preserved Greek amphitheaters in the world, but also the Neapolis archaeological site and the tomb of Archimedes.
Cooking workshop and visit of Taormina
The second Sicilian cooking workshop! This morning you prepare your own lunch based on local products and recipes. This workshop is also given by Nicoletta. After lunch you can organize an optional visit to Giardini Naxos or Taormina. Taormina is a charming little town with plenty of beautiful shops, cafés and restaurants.
Modica and Noto
Today we bring you to Italy’s chocolate capital Modica, the town known for its special chocolate made with an original ancient Aztec recipe. We will visit a chocolate lab and we will taste this delicacy made in many different flavours. We then visit Noto, the amazing town that has been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List because of its beauty. Noto is one large open-air museum. We enter this beautiful city through the Porta Reale and have enough time to enjoy the beautiful buildings in typical Sicilian Baroque style, the cozy shops and the many lovely cafés.
Today is totally free and you can explore the area on your own or enjoy yourself in and around your accommodation. Optionally we can offer you an excursion to a wine farm in the vicinity of the hotel or to the top of Mount Etna by jeep, where you’ll be able to visit the volcanic caves and enjoy breathtaking views from this majestic mountain.
Your third and last Sicilian cooking workshop: together with Nicoletta you prepare a lovely lunch and enjoy some more of the many delicious dishes and wines Sicily has to offer.
